Been using the hitmate to epee fence in the park and just purchased the dagger weapon set. Great exercise but I would like to see some training videos on this website so I can learn proper techniques!

Hitmate is nice , but still has errors
-how do you stop bell guard hits registering?
-how do you make helmet hits register?
-we have had hits to the chest and arm not register during a bout, most register but a few do not

It would help if we knew how the "grounding" system worked.  Where should be be wearing the body cord to best effect the ground/

We had the same issue but fixed the problem by placing the body cord completely against the body (sweat causes some issues and problems) and then setting the scoring devices while the Hitmate is inside the back pocket OR underneath the jacket. Try playing around with the location of the Hitmate in regards to body too! Even switching between opponents has solved the ground issue. Sometimes it was even a weapon issue with older epee's that have bad wires inside the guard. Hope this helps

For training in dagger, you may want to look at some of the Renaissance era fencing texts by masters such as Salvatore Fabris (hard to find in English, but the translator is releasing a new edition soon) Rudolfo Capoferro, or Gigante. All three explain the Italian school of fence taught in the late 16th century.
I study historical Rapier, which includes dagger, cloak, even some small shield work. And while a modern epee is much lighter and more flexible, the principles of tempo, measure, and line all apply equally to modern equipment. Footwork depicted in the Renaissance masters' texts will be very handy for this new modern style.

We had our official first night of Dagger fencing and Epee fencing at the Orlando Fencing Club.
We had way too many issues with Hitmate, i tried to follow the suggestions but still often it would not score, seriously bad timing issues, or it would just stop working all together, we had to often unplug everything and hook it up again and it would re-set itself temporarily. Im rather bummed with the hitmate, our tether set up is defective so we end up dry-dagger fencing, however it was a good night of learning something new.
